Before you start

What you need

Three things. None of them needs a credit card.

A Claude plan with Cowork

Pro or Max. On Team or Enterprise, it works if your admin has turned Cowork on. Use the Claude desktop app or claude.ai in your browser.

A free Apify account

Apify reads public posts for the agent. The free plan includes 5 US dollars of usage a month and needs no credit card.

Your COMPANY-BRAIN.md

It tells the agent who you serve, what you sell and how you sound. No file yet? The agent will interview you and build a short one.

Step 1

Create your free Apify account

Skip this step if you already have one.

  1. Open apify.com in your browser.
  2. Click Sign up. Google sign-in or an email address both work.
  3. Choose the free plan. It includes 5 US dollars of usage every month and does not need a credit card.
  4. Stay signed in to Apify in that browser. It makes Step 3 smoother.
Step 2

Install the plugin in Claude

  1. Download content-research-agent-v1.0.0.zip. Do not unzip it.
  2. Open the Claude desktop app, or claude.ai in your browser.
  3. Click Customize in the left sidebar.
  4. Click Plugins.
  5. Click Add (it may say Add new), then Upload plugin.
  6. Choose the zip file you downloaded.
  7. The plugin appears in your list as content-research-agent.

Installing does not connect Apify on its own. That is the next step, and you only do it once.

Step 3

Connect Apify (once)

  1. Still in Customize, then Plugins, click content-research-agent.
  2. Open the Connectors tab.
  3. Next to apify, click Connect.
  4. A browser window opens on Apify. Sign in if asked, then allow access.
  5. Come back to Claude. The Apify connector should now show as connected.
  6. Start a new conversation or task, so Claude picks up the new tools.

Already connected Apify from Claude's connector directory? That works too. It is the same Apify server, so you do not need both.

Never paste a key or token anywhere. The connection signs in through your browser. If you paste one by mistake, delete the message and reset the key in your Apify account.

Step 4

Set it up in a Cowork task

  1. Create a folder on your computer called Content.
  2. Open Cowork and select that folder. Everything the agent saves goes there.
  3. Type this and send it:

The agent asks one question at a time. There are five short steps:

  4. 4 of 5Competitors, platforms and keywordsName 5 to 10 competitors or creators you admire. A website is enough: the agent proposes their handles and you confirm. Pick platforms (Instagram, TikTok and YouTube recommended; X, Reddit and LinkedIn optional, with LinkedIn suited to B2B and professional-services businesses) and confirm 5 to 8 search keywords it suggests from your Company Brain.
  5. 5 of 5BudgetThe most one run may cost. 2 US dollars is suggested.

Setup happens once. It is saved in your folder. Next time, select the same folder and go straight to running research. When it offers to run your first research, say yes.

Step 5

Run it

Select your Content folder in Cowork, then type:

Before it spends anything, it shows you an estimate. Then you get:

Top 5 ranked topics, with links to the posts that prove each one is working.
A 45 to 60 second video script in your voice.
3 alternative hooks to test.
On-screen text and B-roll notes.
A caption and a lead magnet idea.
A quality check on all of it. The gate blocks invented numbers, quotes and results.

The agent drafts; you decide. Read every script out loud and confirm every item marked [CHECK] before you post.

After setup

Everyday use

Select the same folder, then type any of these. Tap one to copy it.

Teach it your style. When you correct a script, say "remember this". It saves the rule and follows it next time.

What it costs

The plugin is free. Apify charges per result it collects, and that comes out of your own Apify account.

Estimate
About $1 to $2
per typical run, worked out from Apify's listed prices. With the default settings, about 1.50 to 1.70 US dollars.

Default hard cap per run. You choose the number in setup, and every Apify call carries that spend cap.

  • LinkedIn is optional and costs extra: about 0.005 US dollars per post, so 8 LinkedIn profiles or company pages at 10 posts each plus 20 search results is about 0.50 US dollars per run. This is an estimate from Apify's listed prices.
  • Before every run the agent shows an estimate, and asks you first if it is above your budget.
  • Prices are set by Apify and can change. These are estimates, not a guarantee.
  • Your exact charges are in your Apify account under Billing.

Your data

Privacy

  • Your Company Brain, competitor list and results stay in your folder and your Claude conversations. Nothing is sent to Asmal Digital.
  • Apify receives the handles and keywords you search, and collects only public posts, under your own Apify account.
  • The agent never posts anything for you. It drafts. You decide what goes out.
  • It never asks for passwords or API keys.
  • You can open and edit every file it saves, at any time.

If something is off

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to do
Apify is not responding, or "Apify is not connected"Go to Customize, Plugins, content-research-agent, Connectors tab, and click Connect again. Then start a new conversation or task.
No Upload plugin optionYour plan may not include it. Check you are on Pro or Max. On Team or Enterprise, ask your admin to turn Cowork and plugins on.
A platform returned nothingThe report says which platform and why. Try again later, or check the handles with "update my competitors". The other platforms still run.
Scores are missing, or it cannot run the scoringUse Cowork or Claude Code. Plain chat may not run the scoring scripts.
It asks to set up againSelect the same folder you used before. Your setup is saved in that folder.
"Out of credit" from ApifyYour free monthly credit is used up. Wait for next month, or choose a paid Apify plan yourself. The agent never upgrades anything for you.

Optional

Using Claude Code instead

  1. Unzip the plugin into a folder.
  2. Start Claude Code with claude --plugin-dir <that folder>.
  3. Type /mcp, choose apify, then Authenticate. Sign in to Apify in the browser and allow access.
  4. Use the same phrases as above, or the commands /content-setup, /content-research-run, /content-update and /content-script. Claude Code may show them with the plugin name in front.
